Polarity Therapy is a comprehensive health care system based on the understanding of the human energy field. Polarity Therapy is the fruit of the life's work of Randolph Stone N.D., D.C., D.O., who was almost 92 years old when he passed on in 1981.
In a series of 6 books published between 1954 and 1957 Dr. Stone offered his synthesis of Ayurveda, Naturopathy, Osteopathy, Craniosacral Therapy, Hermetic Philosophy and Quantum Physics which he called Polarity Therapy.
Stone's consciousness was far ahead of his time and his work was nearly lost to the world. It was only through the renaissance of interest in holistic health and spirituality in the early 1970's that the world caught up with Dr. Stone's profound understanding and Polarity Therapy began to develop a following of earnest students.
Robert K. Hall, M.D, founder of the Lomi School of somatics referred to this pioneering physician as " the father of a new field of energetic studies."
In 1986 a small group of Polarity Therapists, students of Dr. Stone, met in California. It had been 15 years since Dr. Stone's retirement, and Polarity practice was becoming diffused. The founders goal was to unify the diverse strands of practice and teaching and to build a new profession. upon a solid foundation of Standards and Ethics: Thus The American Polarity Therapy Association was born.

Excellence in the Professional Practice of Polarity Therapy
The American Polarity Therapy Association (APTA) is committed to upholding the integrity of Dr. Randolph Stone's Polarity Therapy and is committed to promoting excellence In the professional practice of Polarity Therapy. APTA is now in its third decade of service as the center of the polarity community. It is a rapidly growing organization with over 1200 members in the US and affiliates throughout the world. APTA offers a broad range of valuable benefits to Polarity Therapists.
The APTA Standards For Practice (SFP) articulates a clearly delimited understanding of Dr. Stones published works in Polarity Therapy. The SFP expresses the core competencies essential to practice as a professional Polarity Therapist. The APTA offers two levels of professional certification. Associate Polarity Practitioner (APP) and the Registered Polarity Practitioner(RPP). Heartwood currently offers APP training. The APP certification acknowledges a first level of competence in the study and practice of Polarity Therapy.
Students completing training at Heartwood Institute are qualified to join APTA and to apply for the APP status.
APTA Approval
Our Polarity Therapy Program is Approved by The American Polarity Therapy Association. The APTA is the national professional organization for Polarity Therapy. Individuals completing the basic Polarity Therapy Training may join the APTA as an Associate Polarity Practitioner.The APP certification is the standard of excellence in the professional practice of Polarity Therapy.
Associate Polarity Practitioner: APP Programs 175 Hours
Energy As Medicine I & II 90 hours
Somatic Emotional Clearing 30 hours
Exercise Therapy/Easy Stretching Postures 10 hours
Hours Giving sessions (outside class) 30 hours
Musculoskeletal Anatomy 10 hours**
*Personal Polarity Sessions with Qualified Practitioner 5 hours
This program is highly recommended for APP's who are seeking advanced training toward their RPP Certification. Burger's approach to Polarity is unique and very deep . . . valuable for beginning and advanced students.
* Each student in the APP program is required to receive a minimum of 5 personal one hour Polarity Therapy sessions. Of these five sessions, three (3) are to be given by the same qualified practitioner in order to establish a continuity of treatment. The additional two (2) sessions are to be given by different qualified practitioners for the student to experience a broader spectrum of polarity techniques.
** Students are required to meet the anatomy requirement outside of our program.
